Robin Veith QUITS

Nikkie Finke has updated her post on Kate Gordon's firing with news that Robin Veith has quit:

I've learned that writer’s assistant-turned-staff writer, Robin Veith, quit Mad Men before she could be let go by Matthew Weiner.

A source tells me: "It was at the very worst mutual. She needed to move on and see how she would do after leaving the nest. Matt is a genius, and he gave lots of people an opportunity, but never let's anyone forget it. I'm sure he'd never tell anyone she quit, because that is a rejection of him. Anyway, they are friends and made a mutual decision."

A show insider replies, "There are staffing changes every season. It is the nature of television shows to fine tune. Why is it news this season?" Because the show won two best drama Emmy's in a row, and with success comes attention. Deal with it.

REALLY DO NOT LIKE THIS NEWS AT ALL.

Great shows, like Mad Men and Twin Peaks, are just doomed.

2 1/2 Men will be on forever.

i'm hoping this just means both women are moving on to other projects, maybe ones they're developing themselves? i'm going to put on my rose-colored glasses and believe that this isn't anything other than what happens at tv shows all the time.

I really do not like this news. There seems to be quite a bit of speculation regarding both writers' exits that Matthew Weiner's ego has something to do with it. I hope that's not true, Mad Men is too good a show to be run by an egomaniac.

Too late for that (show being run by an egomaniac). Ever since Weiner's Emmy speech, I've been thinking, "Wow; he's really kind of a douche." As long as the show's still good I don't care, but with KG and now RV right on her heels...does make me nervous.

Dear Drama,

The only time I want to see you is on-screen not off-screen. Please end now.

WTF?! It wasn't really a big deal that Kater was let go since I really didn't know who she was, but I knew Robin worked with Matt on the show since it started.

Is it true that Bryan Batt quit, or is that just a silly rumor? I don't want people to start dropping from this show like flies. ...but sadly that happens once a show gets really huge. :/

I know Weiner's the showrunner, but there's no way he's the whole show, and the more people who drop away from the creative team, the warier I become.

Well damn. I swear, MM is one of the only decent shows on television now strictly because of the writing. I really hope it's not gonna go down the toilet. With Lost coming up on the it's last season, if MM starts sucking, I guess I can bag the satellite subscription. I hope it doesn't come to that!

mad men and breaking bad really are the only shows on regular cable that i care about. this is depressing news.

I think this has happened every season, but they're noticing it now because of the Emmy being won just weeks before Kater was fired. I'm thinking the megalomania thing is probably true, but lots of creative people who succeed become assholes. Look at Don Draper.
